Rye Festival of the Sea
September
Spend the Sunday in Rye (11am – 6pm) and honour the deep-rooted maritime history of the town. Raft race, tug of war, Pugwash tales and stalls. All the details found here.
Battle Re-Enactment
One thousand and sixty six soldiers are set to re-enact 1066 Battle of Hastings, the most famous battle in England’s history. It will be brought vividly to life by troops from a host of historical groups from Britain and across Europe.
From 10am to 4pm each day, visitors can immerse themselves in every aspect of 11th century life – for both soldiers and ordinary folk – as authentic period crafts are sold from over 60 stalls in an historical market and a living history encampment depicts the daily toil for those living on both sides of the Channel. Mounted knights give cavalry displays in preparation for battle at 3pm each afternoon.
Birds of prey will provide thrilling flying sessions and visitors can try their aim during have-a-go archery sessions, whilst children can take part in fun mock Battle of Hastings skirmishes which will be running during each day.

Wild Boar Week in Rye
27th October – 4th November
Wild Boar Week in Rye, East Sussex is a perfect opportunity to indulge in culinary delights from the dark ages; and not just boar. Various Dates for Bonfire Season in 1066 Country
Bonfire season in 1066 Country is quite a spectacle. Over many years the competition between the Bonfire Boys in the different societies, all sorts of official mayhem (including burning barrel races), surprisingly-costumed torch-lit processions and visiting crowds of up to 80,000 have created a thrilling evening. It’s controversial, and more than a little eccentric, but try and change it at your peril…
